Lidl-Trek Introduces a New Pathway for Women’s Cycling
Lidl-Trek is expanding its commitment to women’s cycling with the launch of a new development team for the 2027 season. The project, named Lidl-Trek Future Racing Women, aims to help emerging riders progress toward the highest level of professional road cycling.
Announced on October 28, 2026, the new team will feature 10 riders representing eight countries.
A Team Built for the Next Generation
The development squad is designed to give riders more opportunities to gain racing experience, improve their skills and prepare for the demands of elite competition.
As the level of competition in the Women’s WorldTour continues to rise, the transition from developing talent to becoming a professional rider can be challenging. Lidl-Trek hopes to make that journey more accessible by providing a dedicated environment for learning and progression.
The team will be managed by Fränk Schleck, who believes that young riders need time and support to develop without facing immediate pressure to deliver results.
Meet the 10 Riders
The inaugural roster brings together riders from across Europe and the United States:
- Italy: Chantal Pegolo and Matilde Rossignoli- Austria: Tabea Huys- Luxembourg: Liv Wenzel- Spain: Ane Zubeldia- Great Britain: Kate Richardson- Denmark: Olympia Norris-Mortensen- Germany: Messane Bräutigam- United States: Katherine Sarkisov and Ella Sabo
The international roster reflects the team's aim to identify promising riders from different backgrounds and provide opportunities for long-term development.
Why This Matters for Women’s Cycling
Development teams play an important role in professional sport. They help promising athletes gain experience, learn from teammates and prepare for the demands of competing at the highest level.
Lidl-Trek already operates a men's development programme. The introduction of a dedicated women's squad extends that approach and creates another potential pathway toward its Women’s WorldTour team.
Rather than measuring success only through race victories, the project will also focus on helping riders become more experienced, confident and prepared for professional careers.
The team is scheduled to begin racing in the 2027 season, making it a project worth following as women's cycling continues to develop internationally.
